Frequently asked questions.

A quick overview of how Flavas Canada works across our three divisions. Don't see your question? Reach out — we're happy to help.

What does Flavas Canada do?
Flavas Canada delivers taste, palatability and product innovation solutions through three divisions: Human Food, Pet Food and Animal Feed. We supply flavours, colours, palatants, functional ingredients and end-to-end product development support to Canadian manufacturers.
Where are you based and who do you serve?
We are headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta and serve manufacturers across Canada — from coast to coast — with samples, technical support and Canadian regulatory expertise.
Can I request samples?
Yes. Reach out via the contact form and tell us about your project — target profile, application, volumes and timing. Our team responds within one business day and can dispatch samples with full documentation.
Do you offer product development and innovation services?
Yes. Our Human Food and Pet Food divisions both offer hands-on product development — from concept and benchwork to pilot and commercial scale-up. Animal Feed customers can access technical formulation support for palatability and specialty additive projects.
Are your ingredients suitable for clean-label and natural formulations?
Yes. We carry natural flavours, natural colours, botanical extracts and clean-label functional ingredients across all three divisions, alongside conventional options where they make sense for the application.
Is documentation available for CFIA / Health Canada submissions?
Yes. Every product ships with the technical, regulatory and safety documentation Canadian R&D and QA teams need, including specifications, allergen statements and country-of-origin information.
How do I get in touch?
Use the contact form on this site, email admin@flavas.ca or call our Edmonton office. Choose the division most relevant to your project and we'll route you to the right specialist.

Working with our technical team

How do I request a sample, and what do you need from me?
Send us the application, target profile, dosage window, process conditions (pH, heat, shear, packaging) and any label constraints. Bench samples are typically dispatched in 3–7 business days, with matching documentation and a suggested starting dosage.
Is there a cost or minimum order for bench samples?
Bench samples for qualified development projects are supplied free of charge in trial-appropriate quantities. Pilot-scale quantities are quoted per project, and commercial minimums depend on the product family and format.
What documentation ships with each sample?
Technical data sheet, safety data sheet, allergen and GMO statements, country of origin, kosher/halal status where applicable, and label declaration guidance for CFIA and Health Canada requirements. Certificates of analysis accompany commercial lots.
What is a realistic timeline from brief to commercial launch?
A typical project runs 4–12 weeks: brief and screening in week one, first submissions within two weeks, one to three iteration rounds, then plant trial and scale-up. Complex reformulations — sugar or sodium reduction, plant-protein masking, full pet food palatant work — sit at the longer end.
Can you support confidential projects and sign an NDA?
Yes. We routinely work under mutual NDAs and can execute yours before the first submission. Briefs, formulations and trial results stay with the assigned technical contact.
Do you support scale-up and plant trials on site?
Yes. We attend pilot and production trials, adjust dosage for process losses, and document the final let-down ratio and handling instructions so QA and production teams can repeat the result lot after lot.
Do you provide bilingual (English and French) technical and label support?
Yes. Technical documentation, specifications and label declaration guidance are available in both English and French, so Quebec and national bilingual packaging requirements are covered from the first submission.
